Как складывались отношения между нашей страной и далекой Южно-Африканской Республикой во второй половине XX века? Почему именно деятельность Советского Союза стала одним из самых важных политических факторов на юге Африканского континента? Какую роль сыграла Россия в переменах, произошедших в ЮАР в конце прошлого века? Каковы взаимные образы и представления, сложившиеся у народов наших двух стран друг о друге? Об этих вопросах и идет речь в книге. Она обращена к читателям, которых интересует история Африки и история отношений России с этим континентом, история национально-освободительных движений и внешней политики России и проблемы формирования взаимопонимания между различными народами и странами.

What were the relations between our country and far-off South Africa in the second half of the twentieth century? Why and how did the Soviet Union become one of the most important political factors at the tip of the African continent? What was Russia’s role in the changes that South Africa went through at the end of the last century? What were the mutual images that our peoples had of one another? These are the questions that we discuss in this book. It is aimed at the reader who is interested in the history of Africa, in Russia’s relations with the African continent, in Russia’s foreign policy and in the problems of mutual understanding between different peoples and countries.
