Пять столетий Запад владел земными просторами — недрами, промышленным производством, торговлей, военным контролем. Но в конце XX века контроль западных стран над мировым развитием ослаб, и на наших глазах сузилась сфера западного доминирования. Привычное преобладание Запада начало уступать место новым центрам мирового развития.

Профессор А.И. Уткин является директором Центра международных исследований ИСКРАН (Москва), работал в исследовательских и университетских центрах Запада и Востока, в Нью-Йорке, Париже, Стамбуле, Шанхае, он автор 46 монографий, многие из которых переведены на иностранные языки.
